Nursery Reveal!!

reveal - Copy

The last diy nursery project on the list is the 1960’s dresser that belonged to my dad as a kid. Unfortunately, it’ll be a little while before it’s finished and I can post it. When my hubby started sanding and stripping down the multiple layers of paint on the dresser we realized that two of the legs need to be rebuilt so currently it is in about 15 pieces. Since we are also in the midst of rebuilding our garage the dresser will have to wait. But the nursery reveal doesn’t….

Okay so here is my long-awaited reveal! Continue reading

DIY Sailor Knot Headband

IMG_3758

Happy Monday! Another weekend gone by, but well spent. On Friday night we went for a walk and a movie date with friends, then had a relaxing day at home Saturday and then yesterday morning my hubby and I did yard work. So to treat ourselves we decided to spent Sunday afternoon strolling along the lake after a coffee date followed by an amazing dinner of all-you-can-eat-sushi!!! After a long days work, it’s pretty disgusting astounding how much sushi a full grown man and a pregnant lady can really eat. haha we won’t go there….

Diy Boot Jewelry

IMG_2251

I know for some of you it’s getting warmer where you live and we are all tempted to pack away the winter boots and pull out our flip-flops but why not rock all your cute boots into the spring/summer season with cute dresses and skirts?! Especially with all the mullet dresses (short in the front, long in the back). I just had to share this diy I made because I was so happy with how easy, cheap and functional it turned out. First, I found this great pair of brown LEATHER boots at a local consignment store for $8.00!! How could I not take them home with me?! I loved how comfortable they were but as soon as I got them home and tried them on with an outfit I knew they were missing something….

I have seen so many beautiful boots online and in magazines with funky buckles and straps so why couldn’t I just add my own straps?! And let’s be honest…. weren’t the boot straps just glorified belts?! These were the types of boots I was inspired by.

So I went in search of two belts that were similar in color to my boots. With belts being such a must-have accessory these days, you can buy cheap belts at so many stores. Ardene’s, H&M, Forever 21, Urban Planet or Suzy Shier.  Anyways, I was looking through the belt section of a thrift store one day and came across this interesting piece.

I’m not sure what it was?! A harness? A backpack strap? A leash? Let’s just hope it wasn’t previously owned by a fan of Fifty Shades of Grey because that opens up a whole other possibility for this piece. haha Anyways, I knew all I had to do was unstitch the center piece and wa-la. I had two identical belts in the right color.

Then, I simply wrapped them around my boots and ta-da! From beautiful to boot-iful! Just what the doctor ordered. The best part is you can take them off any time, or switch them up. Maybe a patterned belt, contrasting shades or add two different belts to each boot for more of a statement piece. Let me know what you come up with!

DIY Lace Cuffs

IMG_1956

Well here we are in the new year. Now that we have all survived the end of the world and New Years Eve, it’s safe to say we are good for a while. I feel like I have finally caught up on my sleep from a few late nights and I feel great! Four more days till I go back to work. So I’m going to relax, read, and work out. As a regular gym member, I gotta say that I’m a little apprehensive about going to the gym today. I went all last week but the first week of January can be a little hectic. I swear when the doors open to the gym you’d think it was Black Friday at Walmart. Anyways, on boxing day I purchased a super cute pair of brown boots…on sale of course! I love the casual look of brown boots because they pull together so many different looks. Bohemian, hipster, vintage, dressy casual….and the list goes on. I know it’s a little too cold to go bare-legged in boots this time of year but I am prepared for the first warm day. I was inspired by the look of lace tights that are all the rage right now so I wanted to make a summer equivalent. So once the warm weather comes I thought lace boot cuffs would be super cute. They were so easy to make and inexpensive. I made two pairs (with fabric left over) for under $5.00! And it took me less than 3 minutes to make two pairs. Hope you like it!!

You will need:

  • measuring tape
  • stretchy wide lace
  • scissors
  • sewing machine or serger (you could sew by hand if you needed to)
  • buttons (optional)

Step 1. Measure around your calf. Subtract one inch and cut that length from your lace.

Step 2. Fold the fabric in half right sides facing in. Sew along edge.

Step 3. Turn cuffs right side out and you should have tube shaped cuffs.

I made two pairs of these cuffs. A white pair with no buttons and an off-white pair with three little buttons. I absolutely love the look of the peek-a-boo of lace. I’m also going to make a black pair that I can wear over my skinny jeans with my black boots. Of the possibilities. I hope you like your creation and if you have any questions let me know!
