Holidays have been and always will be very busy in my life. I have a big family so Thanksgiving since I was a kid has always meant at least three different meals at several different places… not that I’m complaining about getting to eat seconds and thirds of desserts?! But with a busy toddler to tote around for the next three days hopped up on pumpkin pie and whip cream I decided to take some much needed pre-weekend mommy time and went for a drive today all alone.
I packed my camera, some warm clothes and jumped in my car for a little road trip. I blared the country music and enjoyed the serenity of the fall colors and dewy weather. There is a little town about an hour away that I have always loved. I have been going there since I was a little kid every summer when the rodeo/fair is in town but at that time of year it’s filled with tourists lining every street. So it was entirely different to see the town on a quiet autumn afternoon. I did manage to get myself lost in the back roads after taking a few last minute turns to capture the right picture, but I managed to find my way back home. Not that I would have minded getting lost in a place like this….. but I wouldn’t want to miss the pumpkin pie.
And yup…. I sure did pack two hats. I’ve learned that taking pictures underneath trees in fall can get very wet…. so I went prepared. Except when it comes to directions….
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own, and you know what you know. And you are the one who’ll decide where to go. ~ Dr. Seuss
