DIY Baby Crinkle Toy

Hey everyone! Is it really July already?! Where is summer going? We have been sooo busy lately with our first trip out to the lake, summer BBQ’s, beach trips and birthday parties. We have been loving every new memory as a family but after the long days in the heat my little man is wiped out (and so is mommy).

My little man’s fifth tooth just came in so he has been a chewing machine. He loves any and all tags and labels so I decided it was time I made him his own crinkle toy/stuffy. I was prepared to force  foster a relationship between him and his new dinosaur but turns out he loves him!  It’s his favorite stuffy to play with on car rides and his favorite napping buddy.  I like that this is mainly a cuddly stuffy but it still has some edges to bite and crinkle. I had all the materials in my craft closet so yet again this DIY was free for me!!

All you need is

  • fabric of your choice for the body and spikes
  • an old chip bag (to put in the triangle spikes for the crinkle)
  • ribbons
  • pins
  • scissors
  • sewing machine
  • stuffing

Step 1 Cut out two pieces for the dinosaurs body. There are tons of templates online if you are stumped. Then I sewed simple triangles to make the spikes. In each spike I put a small triangle piece that I cut from the chip bag.

Step 2 Pin all the spikes and ribbons facing inwards onto one piece of the dinosaur body (pin to the right side of the fabric) and sew all around the edge. Remove pins. Then place the other piece for the body on top.

Step 3 Sew all around the body leaving an opening big enough to stuff.  (you could also cut out a large piece from the chip bag for inside the body of the dinosaur) Turn right side out, stuff and hand stitch the opening closed. Ta da!!

This is a great and inexpensive toy for lil’ ones to play with. I love having handmade stuffies around the house like the one I made here. These would also make a great baby shower gift! Happy crafting!
