DIY Clear Ornaments

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! My tree(s) have been decorated since the last week of November but I still can’t stop making ornaments throughout the holidays. Last year I went to Michaels and saw these great clear Christmas ornaments! You can purchase them in glass or plastic. The plastic ones are great to guarantee no broken ornaments when they are packed away or when your kids are grabbing at the tree. But let’s be honest, I buy them in plastic because I’m about as graceful as a hippo in ice skates when it comes to handling breakable items. (baby not included)

They were affordable to begin with but I always use the Michaels coupon  here, so they were even cheaper. Then I started shoving anything and everything into them to see what I liked best. After all my experimenting these are some of my favorite creations. They make a great Christmas present and it takes no time to put them together.

Simply cut strips from an old book, wrap the strip around a pencil and slip them in the opening.

Put small pieces of old crayons (size of a pea) into opening, place on a newspaper, hold a hot hairdryer to the ornament and roll back and forth

Have old tinsel or garland lying around that you don’t use anymore?! It looks great sparkling through the glass.

Rope and twine is perfect for a rustic or nautical look on your tree.

The best part of these ornaments is that you can customize them to personalize any gift. Know someone who loves to cook?! Fill each ornament with a different spice and display them in the kitchen for a decorative and practical gift. Know someone who loves to bake?! Fill each ornament with different colored sprinkles or sugar for a colorful and fun gift. Have kids?! Fill (plastic) ornaments with their favorite tiny candies as a stocking stuffer. Have a certain Christmas color scheme?! Just color coordinate any of these ideas to match your existing tree and decor. Seriously…… the possibilities for these little ornaments are endless.

I’d love to know what ideas you come up with! Enjoy!!

  1. I love that you are crafty! I haven’t met anyone else like me in that area but you. Cool. I have done these with white feathers and as well as tinsel. I love the melted crayon idea.
