DIY Framed Letters

This is my second post from my nursery diy projects. I will be posting one or two each week now.  Then once I’ve posted all the diy projects that went into our baby room I will be doing the final nursery reveal!!  If you missed the first diy project, it was the handmade stuffed animal I made for our soon-to-be son.

I love any and all kinds of weathered wood signs so I knew I wanted one in the nursery (our house is beach/coastal themed) As I was thinking of what old wood I could create a sign with, I remembered that my mom had this old picture frame that was sitting in her basement.

I wasn’t in love with the look of it because I hated the scrawny twigs and the black frames. So….. I just ripped off the twigs and roughed up the frames with some sandpaper. Then I matched up a similar beige color and repainted the frames. Easy peasy. Then since I didn’t want to use it as a traditional frame for pictures I started snooping around the internet for some ideas. I came across this picture and loved the idea of spelling the word LOVE with patterned paper.

So I rummaged through all my scrapbook paper and found two patterns that I liked and simply cut out the letters and glued them onto the contrasting pattern. I placed them in the frames and wa-la! Easy custom framed letters! Finally I found some rope and tied a sailor knot to add to the top and up on the wall it went.

I was lucky enough to have the frame to begin with, but if you wanted to make one from scratch it’d be SUPER easy.  All you need is three vertical pieces of wood attached by four thinner horizontal pieces of wood. A few washes on paint and some sandpaper to rough it up and then buy a few inexpensive picture frames at a local dollar store and glue them on. Ta-da!
