Oh organizing… how I love thee….let my count thy ways. When the weather cooled off last week and gave us several days of rain I made the most of my time and decided it was time to properly organize my pantry. I can’t even call it a pantry because it’s actually a separate room off the kitchen with tons of storage. So I took all the space for granted and just tossed odds and ends in where ever I could. But the other day I couldn’t take this eye sore anymore so the hamster started running.
I love mason jars and they are the best storage for all my craft supplies right now, so I knew I had to buy some more. I buy mine at Rona for only $14 for a case of 12!! Then with chalkboard all the rage right now I knew I wanted to have chalkboard labels. However, not only are they nearly impossible to find anywhere, but the ones that I did find online were super expensive. No thank you!! So off I went shopping to get my own supplies. With a can of chalkboard spray paint (I bought this at Michaels with a store coupon at 50% off) and some dollar store shipping labels I was able to make 40 labels for under $8!! That wouldn’t even have covered the shipping cost if I bought them online. Plus they were super easy to make and with a few tricks it is a foolproof way to make your own labels in less than 5 minutes (minus the drying time off course). It made a huge difference…. and it looks cute to boot!
I am tempted to rip off the cupboard doors just so these jars can take center stage… haha
All you need is:
large piece of cardboard
regular shipping labels
Step 1 Tape down all your labels onto the piece of cardboard to avoid them rippling or blowing away when you spray them.
Step 2 Spray two coats evenly onto the labels and let dry 24 hours. You’re done!!
I just couldn’t get enough of labelling, and since all my mason jars are out of sight I added more labels to the containers that I have out on the counter. I just love how tidy and chic all my ingredients look now. For those who know me know that I love organizing. A less cluttered home to me means: that my house looks nicer, I have more space in my house, it saves me time when everything can be quickly and easily found, and it feels so good once you’ve organized something you couldn’t bear looking at anymore. But hey… it’s not for everyone so remember.
Organizing is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up. ~ A.A Milne
