This is my favourite transformation so far in our house. When we walked into our bedroom for the first time my eye balls were bleeding. Not only were the walls a disturbing shade of peach, but along the entire back wall hung quite extravagant red velvet movie theatre curtains that must have been originally inspired by Hugh Hefner`s bedroom. So I was more than ready to give it a face lift.
When we moved into our house we were only anticipating paint and trim in the master bedroom. However, when my husband went to remove the old baseboard heater off the wall, well the rest of the wall came with it. When the house was built, one simple step of sealing the windows was missed, which led to years and years of water leaking into the siding. So all the framing around the windows was rotten.
So a gut and reno it was! With the help of my father, father-in-law and hubby, they removed all the windows, took down the entire wall, poured new concrete to properly support to windows, re-framed the floor and wall, re-installed the windows, and re-insulated the walls before drywall and mudding. So it was a much longer delay on when we thought we would start painting.
And since we were already doing so much work in the bedroom already, we decided to completely re-build the closet too. It was a huge surprise for us to see such massive closet space in an older home. We have 16 feet of closet space!! But…. it only had one (ugly) bar and one (ugly) shelf.
So my hubby remodelled the closet complete with pot lights, double bars, and shelving to make it the perfect closet to house all my treasures!
My decor inspiration came from the fact that I just absolutely love grey right now. The only 50 shades of grey I am interested in is in my decor. I wanted a very chic, modern and relaxing master bedroom and since we get so much natural light, I wanted to leave it simple and open by keeping decor to a minimum. We tried putting a chaise lounge chair by the window since there is so much room but I changed my mind and I decided it would be the perfect yoga spot. I hope you like it!
